Strategic Business Architecture
Equipping an International Leadership Team to Operate Effectively in India
The context
A global renewable-energy company was bringing a large group of European employees into closer engagement with its Indian business. Technical expertise was not the issue. The challenge was helping experienced professionals understand the cultural and relational dynamics that influence how business gets done in India.
The challenge
The leadership team wanted its people to work more effectively with Indian colleagues, clients and stakeholders — particularly around communication, hierarchy, relationships, decision-making and day-to-day business practices.
What Connexus did
Connexus designed a customised cultural-intelligence programme around three areas:
Cultural Framework
Explored differences in hierarchy, individualism, uncertainty, decision-making and expectations around professional relationships.
Communication and Relationships
Examined high-context communication, indirect feedback, seniority, trust-building, consensus and the role of personal relationships in Indian business.
Practical Integration
Translated cultural understanding into practical behaviours around meetings, timelines, business etiquette, professional messaging, networking and stakeholder relationships.
Rather than relying on cultural theory alone, the programme used realistic scenarios, role-play, polling and case-based discussion to allow participants to practise adapting their approach.
The Outcome
The programme gave 60 international employees a practical framework for interpreting and responding to the realities of the Indian business environment.
The emphasis was not on asking one culture to become like another. It was on developing the cultural fluency to work effectively across differences.
